Publisher FAQ

Why should I become a Hill Ads Publisher?

Hill Ads is the only hyper-local advertising network dedicated to Capitol Hill offering locally relevant ads to your client. An ad network is a third-party service that acts as an intermediary between your website and advertisers. The Hill Ads network allows you to connect with a large pool of local advertisers who want to promote their products or services on your website. When advertisers serve you ads, impressions (page views) on your website will generate revenues that are shared between you and Hill Ads network.

How do I become a Hill Ads Publisher?

It’s simple. Just complete the Publisher Application, or contact us at info@hillads.com or 202-546-5898. By becoming a publisher, you agree to the terms and conditions.

How can my website earn money?

Advertising Members in the Hill Ads network pay a monthly fee. The monthly fees go into a pool. A small portion of the membership pool goes toward management and operating costs. The majority of the pool is divided proportionally among Publishing Members who display Hill Ads on their websites. The proportion is based on the number of ads per page and the number of impressions or ad views for each website. For instance, if you dedicate enough space on your website to display four ads that receive 10,000 impressions per month, you will earn four times as much as a Publisher who dedicates enough space to publish two ads that receive only 5,000 impressions per month.

The Hill Ads network allows local Hill businesses to increase revenue by leveraging their existing website.

When do I get paid?

Payments are issued on a quarterly basis. Publishers are paid only for quarters in which earned revenue exceeds $100 for the quarter. Revenue that is not paid to you in any quarter will be credited to your account and paid when accrued revenue meets or exceeds the $100 minimum payment threshold.

Who is running the Hill Ads Network?

Martha Huizenga and Matt Wade, who you may already know as the owners of DC Access, operate Hill Ads.

How will Hill Ads get placed on my website?

If your website isn’t already designed to allow for ads, you will need to work with your web designer to make room. Ads are typically located in the header, footer or on the right or left-hand side, depending on your website design. Hill Ads will provide specifications for the required space and positioning on your website, along with sample ads so that your designer can show you what your website will look like with Hill Ads. Hill Ads will provide web tags (html code) to place  in your website. This code “points” to Hill Ads ad servers. The ads will then automatically appear and rotate without any further work on your part. Once your website is configured to publish Hill Ads, new and updated ads will appear automatically.

What if I need help making changes to my website?

If you don’t have a web designer who can help you configure your website for Hill Ads, we can assess your website and determine your needs. If the necessary changes are simple, we may be able to help you make the layout changes and insert the coding. If we determine that the changes require a designer, we can recommend Hill-based design firms and freelancers who you can hire to make the changes.

How many ads will appear on my website?

You will decide how many ads appear at one time. Once there is dedicated space on your website, the number of ads that show each month will vary depending on the number of visitors to your site. Ads will rotate regularly.

How do I avoid publishing ads for direct competitors?

When you sign up with Hill Ads and agree to publish ads on your website, you will be able to deselect categories of ads that include direct competitors. For instance, if you run a reality company, you can deselect the “Real estate and property management” category and no ads from that category will appear on your website.

If I’m part of the Hill Ads network, do I also have to agree to advertise my business through Hills Ads?

No. You can be a Publisher without advertising your business. However, if your business would benefit from reaching a targeted audience of people who live and work on the Hill, we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to streamline your online marketing.
